Why Should I Buy Memory Maker?

Before I explain all about what Memory Maker is and why you should buy it, I will start with Photo Pass. Disney started Photo Pass as a way to easily access any photo that was taken on your vacation by a Disney Photographer. Anybody can use Photo Pass whether you are staying on property or off. The photographer will scan your ticket or Magic Band. Each photo runs around $17 – $20 but you are getting professional high quality photos and the permission to get them printed if you choose.  Photo Pass has  become very popular for all the options it allows in the way of products with your photo on them (mugs, calendars, etc.) and Magic Shots which allows characters to be added to your photo after it is taken.  Once you have access to your photos online, you can share them with family or other members of your vacation party.

Memory Maker  is a digital download of all of your pics taken in the parks and on rides. Guests who buy this package have the rights to use all of the photos however they'd like, including printing them at a local printer and ordering products with the photos on them. Guests also get on-ride videos and animated Magic Shots that are not available to anyone else.  At $17 – $20 a pop for each download when you just have Photo Pass, this can save quite a bit of money if you want more than a few photos. Memory Maker runs around $199 but if your pre-purchase you get a $30 discount which brings it down to $169.  Personally this is another one of those things I prefer to pay for before I go and it's done! You don't have to pre-purchase Memory Maker and you have up to 45 days to download by logging into Photo Pass on your computer (not My Disney Experience).

If you purchase a Disney World Vacation Package you will be prompted to set up a My Disney Experience account and link your resort, tickets, and dining plan. You will also see an option to purchase Memory Maker.  You will then be able to link it to your account which will be linked to your Magic Bands. When you see a Disney Photographer and you want a photo, they will scan your Magic Band and it will load the photo onto Memory Maker. Don't for get to request Magic Shots and if you don't already know what that is, they will explain it to you and show you your options. To save time, check that out on the Photo Pass website before you go on vacation.

My daughter is a professional photographer and loves to take photos when we go to Disney World and the Disney Photographers will even use her camera and take family photos that she can be in. They will gladly do this for any guest. So why would we want Memory Maker? Simply because sometimes it is more enjoyable for her to spend time without a big camera hanging around her neck, specially on the rides. Knowing the value of getting lots of shots of every aspect of our vacation and knowing the value of her time, Memory Maker is a great valuable option for us.

Having said that, you must understand that the Disney Photographers will only snap one or two family photos for you due to time restraints. If they are taking their pics you will notice they are snapping  several shots, so you will get more photo options when they take their own photos. Just something to remember. Even though most guests are using their smartphones to snap photos, you should to remember that you are using up a lot of storage and battery power, so you will be spending valuable time searching for charging stations. If that is not a problem for you then you can save some money. Now that we have better phones we will probably do both.
